Lists...
I have decided to make a list of all the things that made me happy as a child and do them all over again. You know, simple, stupid and sometimes dangerous (well dangerous at that age because, the world was full of giants) things, that were so simple and didn't cost money to do, didn't consist of any drama, didn't need anything. Things that we soon grow out of and think is super lame. Come to think of it, after reading through all my previous blogs you would think I am having some sort of wierd pre-mature midlife crisis. I might be, I don't really know what that feels like, so I guess we just have to wait and see. But I just remember some things I used to do as a kid and it was fucking awesome and you didn't care about anything else, except for what you were doing at that moment. So I am going to run through a couple of things that I plan to do...and if you feel like it you can contribute what you used to do.
- Watch all my favourite Disney movies. I am talking the old ones like:
The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, BAMBI, Fantasia, Fiefel goes West (that was Disney right?), Lady and the Tramp. Oh man I can't even remember half of them...a little help? That is to anyone who is about the same age as me or a bit older cause those were the ones that I watched. The really magical ones, like really magical. Oh oh, Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty.
Okay back to the list -
Making tree houses and clubhouses and battling the other kid's clubhouses. Did anyone have like a rival crew? We did and the one line that I remember them saying to me and it has stuck with me this long, maybe because it was so ridiculous that it didn't even warrant an insult, but still stuck with me for so long..."At least I don't wear fluro pink sock." I remember standing in the middle of the street looking back at them sitting on their BMX bikes in a line at the other end of the street and doing that look. You know the "what" look, where you are so confused as to how to take that. I don't know. They broke our clubhouse though. It was so cool but, we had scrounged for scraps from the houses being built around there and built our clubhouse. Was so awesome, until it was ruined. Was so sad.
We used to also try and make boats for the river and bridges and swings and shit. We once made a raft out of a gigantic block of polystierene (spell check) and it worked. Until too many kids got on and we all fell in the creek.
Going on bike rides. Never knew where you were going but ended up having an awesome time, we used to bring a radio cause we had just watched "Now and Then" and thought it would be awesome to go on a bike ride with a gang of girls and wear overalls and ponytails. Which reminds me overalls. Oh my god. I lived in overalls for a good part of my life. I'm talking from about 1 - 12. Retarded right? And or jumpsuites. When they came back into shops I nearly choked. I will always have the worst memory attached to overalls after the time I decided to go down the dirt hill on my bmx and there was this fence and I thought I could break before I smashed into it, yeah that didn't happen. Fucking smashed straight into the fence, flung over the handle bars and got stuck because my overall brace got stuck on the bike handle bar. Most humiliating thing ever.
I had some sweet battle scars though. Uh what else, climbing trees. So much fun climbing trees and then just sitting there. So if you see me attemtping to climb some challenging trees, i'm just going crazy that's all. Playing Barbies. I know you all used to make them have sex ha ha. Let's not even go into it. We were imaginative, party. Making up dance routines to The Spice Girls. Spending all day jumping on a trampoline and trying to double bounce everyone. Making radio stations. You should hear the ones from when we lived in New Zealand, our accents were fucking gold. I love NZ and the accent mind you, totes not dissing on anyone. High side ponytails. Oh man the list goes on. SLIP AND SLIDE which my friend reminded me about. Making home movie versions of The X Files and Party of Five.
Holy shit, I'm going to be here all day. Anyhoo Adam Green is coming to Australia very soon and he is awesome...you might be familiar with Kimya Dawson because when their powers are combined they become The Moldy Peaches...who's music was used in the movie JUNO. They both have many amazing albums, but Adam Green is coming out and his shows deserve to be packed, packed, packed because he is amazing, I sure they will be but if you don't know about him check it out - www.myspace.com/adamgreen1 and if you like what you hear go and buy a ticket to one of his shows.
Hope that you are all well and share your lists, if you feel like it. X X X
